Two-Factor Authentication or Two Step Verification is a key component of our security framework, intended to protect your content against unauthorised access. This article helps you understanding what Two-Factor Authentication is, and why it is importance to protect your intellectual property.

In today’s digital environment, where sensitive media assets are constantly exchanged and stored online, ensuring the security of your content is critical. At Limecraft, we are committed to providing our customers with the highest level of protection against unauthorised access and theft. One key component of our security framework is Two-Factor Authentication (2FA).

What is Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)?

Two-Factor Authentication (2FA), sometimes referred to as two-step verification, is a security process that requires users to double check their identity using two distinct factors before gaining access to a system.

These factors typically fall into two categories:

  • Something You Know – This is usually a password or PIN. In case of Limecraft, we ask you to use a strong password.
  • Something You Have – This can be a physical device, such as a smartphone, or an authentication app that generates a time-sensitive code. In case of Limecraft, we use a Smartphone and Google Authenticator.

By requiring both factors, 2FA significantly enhances the security of user accounts. Even if an unauthorised person obtains a user’s password, they will still be unable to access the data without the second authentication factor.

How Does 2FA Work at Limecraft?

When your account is set up to use 2FA, by yourself or by instruction of your account manager, logging in involves two steps:

  • Step 1 - Enter your password as usual.
  • Step 2 - Verify your identity by providing a code sent to your phone via the authentication app.

This process ensures that only authorised and verified users with both the correct password and access to the second authentication factor can log in.

Why is 2FA Important for Protecting Your Content?

1. Preventing Unauthorised Access

Even if your password is compromised through phishing, hacking, or accidental sharing, 2FA acts as a second line of defense. Without the second factor, malicious actors cannot gain access to your account.

2. Safeguards your Intellectual Property Against Theft

Media assets, scripts, and other sensitive information stored in your Limecraft Workspace represent significant intellectual property and commercial value. 2FA reduces the risk of unauthorised access and potential data theft.

3. Compliance with Security Standards

Many media production companies are required to comply with strict data protection regulations. By implementing 2FA, you are not only enhancing your security posture but also meeting industry standards for content protection.

4. Build Trust with Partners and Clients

Your partners and clients may entrust you with valuable content. Demonstrating that your organisation uses advanced security measures like 2FA helps build trust and reinforces your reputation as a reliable production partner.

How to Enable 2FA on Your Limecraft Account

2FA can be set up for you personally, or it can be enforced for the entire account by the Account Admin.

Two-Factor Authentication is a vital component of Limecraft’s commitment to ensuring the security of your content. By enabling 2FA, you are taking an essential step towards safeguarding your media assets from unauthorised access and theft of Intellectual Property. If you have any questions or need assistance with setting up 2FA, our Customer Success team is here to help.
