Before you start using Limecraft Edge for offloading, backing up, transferring, or transcoding media, it’s essential to properly configure the ingest template your project settings. These settings are managed in your Limecraft Workspace to ensure consistency across your team.

TABLE OF CONTENTS

Note: You need Workspace Admin permissions to view or adjust these settings.

1. Encoding Settings

Review the available transcoding profiles in your Workspace Settings > Media Encoding. You can add new profiles or adapt existing ones to match your workflow requirements.

Note: These are advanced settings. If you're unsure, don’t hesitate to contact the Limecraft team for support.

2. Edge Project Settings

Project settings are overall behavioural settings on the level of the workspace, including the imposed frame rate, the interpretation of audio metadata, file naming conventions for Avid, and the ability to skip the checksum verification.

Use the Audio Metadata Processing settings in the Edge Project settings to ensure Limecraft Edge correctly extracts Episode, Scene, and Shot metadata from the audio files. These data are used to automatically populate the Episode, Scene, and Shot fields for both the audio files and the synced video clips, helping to maintain accurate and consistent project organisation.

Maintaining a consistent pattern when setting metadata on the audio recorder is essential for ensuring that Edge can correctly recognize and interpret the metadata.

3. Look-Up Tables (LUTs)

You can import LUT (Look-Up Table) files and assign them to specific codecs and output formats. This ensures your media is processed with the correct color transformations throughout the workflow.

Don't forget: To apply these settings in your Edge desktop application, go to Edge Settings and click ‘Pull Settings’. If that doesn't work, you might need to shut down and restart your Edge application.

4. Ingest Template

Configure your ingest template to ensure a smooth and consistent workflow across your team:

  • Destination Templates to streamline the process of transferring and transcoding media. Once created, these templates become instantly available on the ingest page in Edge. If you're setting up a Destination Template for shared storage, first create a placeholder and map it correctly in the Edge Settings of your desktop application

  • Enable or disable Transcode Profiles for use in Edge. This helps maintain uniform processing, especially in distributed teams.

Now only the transcode profiles defined in these settings are available when working in the project in Edge. The Destination Templates are automatically shown to speed up the process.

5. Offload Path Structure and File Naming Conventions

Use Edge Settings > Edge Metadata to define the path structure used in:

  • Edge Library

  • Limecraft Workspace Library

  • On the Offload disk

Take time to consider a folder structure adapted to your project which is efficient and scalable at the same time. More info about this topic in the articles about 'offload path configuration' and 'file naming conventions'.

Pro Tips:

  • Create and use custom metadata fields, including multi-valued fields with smart suggestions to maintain consistency.

  • You can also configure categories in your Limecraft Library Settings. These categories are applied when transferring media to the Workspace, ensuring that files are automatically organised under the correct predefined category.

  • The clip name prefix used in the Workspace Library can automatically display the episode, scene, shot, and take as a prefix. This setting can be (de)selected in the Library Settings if preferred.
