When the travel disk arrives at the post-production facility, offloading footage is a key step where Edge can significantly improve efficiency, security, and consistency in handling media content.
This article explains how to back up footage from a travel disk to local storage, enabling original high-resolution media to be relinked to the edit when preparing the master.
NOTE: If the backup to the travel disk was originally done with Limecraft Edge, metadata and offload structure will already have been created. This allows to process the entire drive in one operation. Otherwise, follow the basic backup procedure, processing material one card at a time.
Before You Begin
Ensure the storage locations (local storage and backup drives) are mapped in the Edge settings on your desktop application.
Offload Steps
- Select the travel disk as the source (assuming it was prepared with Edge).
- Select the local storage (mapped as a backup drive) as the destination.
- Follow the prompts to start the backup process.
What Happens During Backup
Using Edge ensures that the offload structure and media renaming remain consistent across all backups. Edge also keeps track of the exact locations of files.
When proxies are created in the Limecraft Workspace, you can find locations and versions in the clip’s detailed file information.

NOTE: It is possible to let an ingest job start automatically after import by ticking the box at the confirmation of an import job.
