Using Edge allows you to seamlessly offload, backup, transcode, and transfer edit proxies, streamlining the post-production workflow. Transcoding original media into edit proxies and transferring them to a network share, such as NEXIS, is a common step after the travel disk arrives at post-production. This process streamlines editing by providing lower-resolution, easier-to-work-with files.
Before You Begin
- Ensure the Network Share is mapped as a shared volume in the Edge settings of your desktop application.
- Confirm you have the appropriate media encoding profile set up for the desired edit proxy.
If you need to make changes or create new encoding profiles, please contact support@limecraft.com or your account manager. Expert knowledge is required for encoding profile customization.
Steps to Transcode and Transfer
Follow the steps of transcode and transfer in this article.
- Select your source media in the Edge Library. If the media isn’t imported yet, follow the import steps first.
- Choose the desired destination (e.g., your mapped network share) and select the appropriate encoding profile (e.g. DNxHD36).
- Start the ingest job.
NOTE: You can start several ingest jobs to different destinations simultaneously.
By default, Edge transcodes two items simultaneously to optimize workflow efficiency.
Track the status of your transcoding and transfer jobs via the JOBS overview in the Edge application.
Typical Use of Edge in Post-Production
In a standard post-production workflow, Edge is used to create:
Backup at a local storage location
Web proxy for viewing on Limecraft Workspace
Edit proxies at a network share, such as NEXIS
