Before you can start using Edge for dailies creation and ingest, you might need to check the configuration and settings.

As soon as you have downloaded and installed Limecraft Edge for backup, dailies processing and ingest, the first thing you need to do is check the basic configuration parameters. These settings are both in Flow and Edge.

In Flow you will find the settings around LUT tables, preferred frame rate for editing, metadata, etc ... You can read all about these settings here

In Edge, you will find the system settings. To access them, click the icon in the top right corner. The first thing you will see is some general information, such as the version and license.

Below that, you will find the section Volumes, where you get an overview of the different storage services accessible to Edge. You have the option to determine the sources and the transfer destinations for backup and ingest.

These are the different storage types:

  • A system volume can't be used by Edge. For example, the main drive of your workstation is a system drive and you should not change this. Edge should not read from it or write to it, to prevent endless indexing (when reading) and to prevent overloading the system drive with large files.
  • A source volume contains the original footage and will therefore only be used to read from during the backup process.
  • A backup volume is accessible during the backup process for storing copies of the original footage before creating dailies and ingesting.
  • A shared volume is the shared edit or archive storage, used for transferring the original footage or edit proxies during the ingest process.

In general, Edge will consume as much CPU capacity as possible to execute transcoding jobs. In order to ensure the responsiveness of the machine so it can do other jobs as well, we recommend to limit the number of simultaneous transcoding jobs to half of the available CPU cores.

If your machine has a GPU-enabled graphics accelerator, you can decide whether or not to use it.

Here you can change the folder where transcoded versions will be stored until transferred. You can change the folder or reset to the default (a subfolder of your system temp folder).

Then, in the Edge database, you can choose to automatically delete clips or jobs after a period of time. We do not recommend this.

Finally, you can decide the naming convention for the files which Edge will write to Avid storage systems.

You didn't find the settings you are looking for?

The configuration options accessible through the user interface are a just small fraction of the available settings that are accessible by manipulating the config files.

For example:

  • The long list of available encoding formats is much longer than what is displayed in a standard configuration.
  • Edge can be configured as well to use visible or forensic watermarking.
  • Edge can take care of audio track redistribution (downsampling).
  • Loudness correction.

Configuring Edge on a lower level by modifying the config files requires deep technical knowledge about the system. In case you are looking for a configuration that is not directly visible or if you have questions, please contact us via [email protected].
